Uruguay midfielder’s father confirms Arsenal medical due

Lucas Torreira’s father has confirmed that his son is set to undergo a medical with Arsenal ahead of his proposed move to the north London club from Sampdoria this summer.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move to bring the Uruguay international to The Emirates this summer as they look to bolster their midfield options this summer. Unai Emery is thought to be on the lookout for midfield reinforcements this summer after he opted to let Jack Wilshere leave the club on a free transfer this month. Torreira, 22, is understood to be one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets this summer as Emery prepares for his first season in charge of the north London club. Now, the player’s father appears to have indicated that a move from Sampdoria is very much on the cards for the Uruguay midfielder. Speaking in an interview with Italian outlet Radio Crc, Torreira’s father said: “I want the best for my son and I also know that Arsenal showed a lot of interest in him. “It’s not done, neither is it official, because he hasn’t signed anything, but there’s a great chance that Lucas’ future will be in England. “There was no problem in the negotiations, and the latest is that as soon as the World Cup ends, he’ll go to London for a medical.” Arsenal confirmed their third signing of the summer transfer window on Monday when they tied up a deal for Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The north London club have also brought in defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper Bernd Leno so far this summer as they look to assemble a squad capable of challenging for a top-four spot next season.
