Transfer Talk:Chelsea's £120,000-a-week January transfer target looks set to be sold this summer

Chelsea unlikely to return for January transfer target Christian Benteke this summer

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Chelsea’s reported January transfer target Christian Benteke could be available this summer as Crystal Palace look to sell the £120,000-a-week striker.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Mail reported on January 19 that Blues manager Antonio Conte was exploring a deal to bring the Belgium international to Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis until the end of the season, as he looked to add a target man with Premier League experience to his frontline. The west London outfit ended up getting Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud instead, with the Frenchman impressing so far and scoring twice in the 3-2 comeback win against Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday. The latest report in the Daily Mail suggests that Eagles boss Roy Hodgson has lost patience with Benteke and is ready to listen to offers for their club-record buy. How has Benteke done this season? It has certainly been a tough campaign for the 27-year-old, who has only scored two goals in 27 Premier League appearances for Palace. The big Belgian was only named on the substitutes’ bench for the 3-2 win against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday despite being the only striker available, with wingers Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend preferred up top instead.
