Champions League: Liverpool vs Roma – preview, team news

It’s a clash that pits the teams placed third in the English Premier League and Italian Serie A against each other.
Five-time European kings Liverpool have barnstormed their way to the last four under charismatic boss Jurgen Klopp. EPL champions Manchester City were stunned 5-1 on aggregate in the quarters by a thrilling Reds effort. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were on hand to settle any lingering second leg nerves at the Etihad. It was a performance to superbly back up their bonkers 3-0 win at Anfield the week before, as Salah was joined on the score sheet by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane. Hitting seven in a match twice during the group stage was a portent of what was to come. And the Merseysiders have made good on their promise to blaze a trail through the competition. Standing in their way are Eusebio Di Francesco’s Roma. And what they did to big shots Barcelona in the last eight more than matched Liverpool’s display. A 4-1 deficit from the first leg at the Camp Nou left the Italians all but out of it. But a captivating comeback in the Stadio Olimpico left Lionel Messi and Co out on their feet.
Edin Dzeko, Daniele de Rossi and Kostas Manolas completed a famous comeback against the La Liga leaders. That alone makes them a serious contender alongside their last four opponents, as well as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the other half of the draw.
