Info From Brazil: Arsenal Preparing a Bid To Sign South American Midfielder-Report

Arsenal are in talks with Maycon’s representatives and the Corinthians midfielder is keen on the idea of making a move to the Emirates, according to UOL eSporte. Arsene Wenger is under pressure to revamp his squad this summer following a disappointing campaign and a new midfielder is understood to be on the agenda. Jack Wilshere is out of contract in June and is yet to sign an extension while Granit Xhaka has come under criticism for his form this season so we need to strengthen our options in the middle of the park. Maycon has emerged as one of the hottest young talents in Brazilian football since breaking in to the Corinthians first team set-up having progressed through their youth system. The 20-year-old provided four goals and four assists last season and is being tipped to become a senior international having already represented Brazil at Under-20 level. Maycon has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months and it seems we’ve now stepped-up our interest as UOL eSporte claim that Arsenal have opened talks with his representatives. The Brazilian publication says Napoli and Shakhtar Donetsk have also been showing a keen interest in the central midfielder but Maycon is believed to favour a move to Arsenal. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but a major stumbling block could be securing a work permit so we may be forced to send Maycon out on loan for a year if we manage to get a deal agreed for his signature. A loan would probably be best for his development as he’s still very young and will take time to get used to European football so I don’t see Maycon being the answer to our midfield problems for the immediate future.
