Neymar out of Real Madrid Champions League Clash with PSG as the Club Confirms the Star Man to Undergo Foot Surgery In Brazil

PSG send Neymar for foot surgery as star man is ruled out of Champions League return leg against Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar will undergo surgery on his broken foot this week. The 26-year-old fractured a metatarsal and sprained his ankle during Sunday's 3-0 win over Marseille. Neymar left the field in tears and, after consultation with Brazilian national team bosses, it has now been confirmed that he must go under the knife. A statement on the club's official website on Wednesday read: 'After an initial treatment period of three days in line with a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team. 'In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar Jr will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week. 'He will be operated on by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, accompanied by Professor Saillant, representing PSG.' PSG manager Unai Emery had earlier suggested there was a 'small chance' Neymar may be able to feature in next Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second leg against Real Madrid. But that is no longer the case. PSG, who trail Real 3-1 after the first leg in Madrid, will sorely miss Neymar who has scored 19 and assisted 13 of their 84 Ligue 1 goals this season. His absence makes PSG even bigger underdogs against Real but they should have no trouble retaining their domestic crown without him as they currently lead Ligue 1 rivals Monaco by 14 points with 11 games to play
